Yes, it’s autumn again. When I was a young little human if I could have, I’d have run away from this season lick-a-tee split. Believe me, I’d have paid anything to get my sneakers on and make a mad dash for the exit.
How about you? Is autumn a time of enjoyment – cooler temperatures, colorful leaves? Or do you dread the falling leaves and darker days? In the years I’ve been teaching Seasonal Yoga I’ve found that it is VERY marmite – it is definitely a love it or hate it type of affair for most people.
Our feelings about this season run much deeper than anyone might have ever guessed. As genetic and cellular research advances, we are beginning to see that we as human beings have vast information stored in our cells from long ago. Suddenly this all began to make perfect sense when I started studying Seasonal Yoga – a kind of hybrid Westernized understanding of very ancient wisdom from what is known as the Five Element Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. Since I’m a logical bird and love to observe, collate and analyze, it was like remembering things I already knew, but had just forgotten for a little while.
Suddenly filled with this knowledge my experience of autumn became a colorful celebration of the yearly seasonal cycle and no longer something to dread like the final nail banging the box of life shut.
